Remember the days when 'Smash Hits' cassette tapes, bubble skirts, big fringes and Charlene & Scott were all the rage?

How life has changed. Maybe for the worse, maybe for the better. One thing that has truly changed for the better, is our options when it comes to what we use when it's 'that time of the month'.

As we become more aware of our footprint on the planet, we have recognised the need to design more sustainable options when it comes to sanitary products. And what tween wouldn't want a more comfortable and less intrusive option when it comes to dealing with their period?

So we set out to find what Aussie brands have to offer when it comes to period undies that have been made especially for tween girls to help make their first period as untraumatic as possible.

SO, WHAT ARE PERIOD UNDIES?

Never heard of them? That's cos in the 'olden days', they weren't around. Period undies are exactly what they sound like. Underwear that's been made for you to wear during your period. No more thick pads. No more dealing with tampons.

They are a godsend for women and girls alike, and if you haven't tried them yourself, I highly recommend. Don't ask me too many questions about how they do their job as that's not my field of expertise. All I know is that they are made so that you can feel as comfortable as possible when it's that time of the month. And you all know how important comfort is at The Teen Age.

Another bonus to wearing period undies is that they are much more environmental. They are washable and reusable, so just think about how much  landfill you are not creating by making one little change. Your jaw may drop when you see how much these can cost, but like with most things sustainable, the initial upfront cost is definitely worth it for your back pocket and for the planet in the long run.
